Living Powerfully, how did I come up with this and what does it mean to me? First I decided on living-powerfully.com after taking a personal development course. That is what I wanted for my life and my family. I wanted the ability to fulfill my purpose. To me living powerfully means living on my terms, living life with unlimited possibility and teaching my children that they too have unlimited potential, not just by telling them but by showing them.. By being a living example of it for them.

For far too long I wondered aimlessly setting my goals base d on what was reasonable under my current circumstances. My current job had opportunities for promotion and I worked hard to get to the next level. That job led to the next and the next until I had achieved a level of corporate success that most would consider impressive. For a long time I was the perfect employee. I went in early, I stayed late, and I did the extras like entertain clients after hours and travel for industry conferences. When budget cuts came, I worked harder and put in even more hours. When budget cuts dipped into employee appreciation expenses, I even spent my own money on important anniversary lunches or department birthday celebrations. Rumor had it that our owner made $4 Billion dollars a year and I was spending my money to show his employees that I valued them when he no longer saw fit to do it. To be honest, I began to resent it more than just a bit. I took ownership for our success, I felt responsible for this business. I was not the one stealing pens from the office for home, I was bringing them from home to use at work. But that wasn't the only thing I was stealing from my family. I took precious time. The one thing I could never replace and I took it from those that meant the most to me. We did have fun together and I would say we were close despite our crazy schedules but there was a lack of true joy in our lives. The joy that comes from knowing we are living fulfilling lives. Then one day it just hit me, I realized I had a choice. I could take matters into my own hands or I could stare down the barrel of 25 more years of this and a questionable retirement. At 39 I was blessed with the answer. Starting my own home business allowed me to retire from Corporate America before my 40th birthday. Never again will anyone tell me what I am worth with a monthly paycheck.
